Our Fall 2024 Scholarship Beneficiaries

  • Madison Pullen

The scholarship from the Breckenridge Professional Ski Patrol Union was instrumental in making it possible for me to attend the National Outdoor Leadership School Wilderness EMT course. This transformative experience provided me with invaluable knowledge and hands-on training in both emergency medical and wilderness medicine techniques. Every day on the mountain, I apply what I learned—from advanced patient assessments and trauma care to adapting medical responses in remote and challenging environments. This course not only enhanced my skills but also deepened my confidence in providing top-notch care. I’m deeply grateful for the support, which allowed me to grow professionally and contribute more effectively to our team and community.

I participated in a Wilderness EMT course through the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in Lander, Wyoming, this fall. This intensive month-long program involved daily classes and living on campus. With a year of patrol experience, I felt prepared to build on my knowledge from Breckenridge Ski Patrol. The instructors delivered the material in a clear and organized manner. Having my EMT certification enhances my confidence in managing patrol scenes, making me a better medical provider. I highly recommend this course to fellow patrollers not only for its valuable education but also for the beautiful surroundings offering various outdoor adventures. I was initially hesitant about the course due to the cost, but with support from Friends of Breckenridge Ski Patrol Union, I was able to pursue this certification. The union provides valuable benefits like scholarships, and I encourage continued support so more patrollers can enhance their medical training and strengthen our patrol.
